IPOB Claims Total Compliance With Sit-at-Home Order Across South-East

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared that Monday’s sit-at-home order recorded what it described as “total and overwhelming compliance” across parts of the South-East, insisting the action shows that residents remain firmly loyal to its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The sit-at-home was declared in solidarity with traders at the Onitsha Main Market following the recent closure of the market by the Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Although the government later reopened the market after a one-week shutdown, reports indicate that only a few traders resumed business.

Across Anambra State, major roads were largely deserted, while many offices, schools, and businesses remained closed, particularly during the early hours of the day.

Reacting to the development, IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, praised residents of the South-East for what he described as a united and peaceful show of support for Kanu. In a statement, Powerful said the level of compliance demonstrated that the people would not be intimidated into abandoning their demand for the release of the IPOB leader.

According to him, the sit-at-home sent a clear message that the people of the region have resolved to resist what he termed intimidation and coercion linked to Kanu’s continued detention.

Powerful added that the action reflected deep-rooted solidarity across communities in the South-East, insisting that support for Kanu remains strong despite pressure from authorities.

He further stated that IPOB remains committed to discipline and order but would continue to oppose actions it views as unjust or oppressive, stressing that Kanu’s continued detention has only strengthened calls for his release.
