Minna, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that no nation can thrive without deliberate investment in its youth, stressing that Nigerians should not be denied quality education due to financial constraints.
The President, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id-Ahmad, made the remarks during the 34th Convocation and 43rd Founders Day of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, on Sunday.
Highlighting the university’s achievements over the past 43 years, Tinubu described FUT Minna as a centre of excellence in science, engineering innovation, and applied research. He added that his administration has expanded access to education through strategic infrastructure investments and the implementation of a student loan scheme.
Prof. Farouk Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the university, praised the resilience, creativity, and dedication of the FUT Minna community. He revealed that the institution ranked seventh among Nigerian universities and 68th in Africa, while also emerging as the highest-ranked specialised university in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the university’s expansion efforts were aimed at fulfilling its mandate as a technology-driven institution addressing societal challenges, particularly in training healthcare professionals and medical technologists.
He further highlighted staff welfare achievements, including promotions for over 256 staff members and the renovation of the university clinic and sports complex.
The university’s Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Mohammed Santuraki, commended the President for his educational reforms and acknowledged Gov. Umar Bago of Niger, who donated N100 million for a female hostel for medical students.
Among the graduates, Koter Oluwadamilola, the overall best graduating student from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, described the moment as a testament to perseverance, faith, and unity.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that FUT Minna graduated a total of 5,297 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
