Abuja — The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reiterated that it is open to welcoming any Nigerian who chooses to join the party, dismissing claims that political leaders are being coerced or induced to defect.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stated this on Monday while speaking during Politics Today, a political programme aired on Channels Television.
According to Morka, the APC does not speculate about who may defect next but remains ready to accommodate anyone who willingly decides to join.
“We are open to receiving any Nigerian who wishes to join our party. We don’t speculate about who may come next, but as many as choose to come, we have room to welcome them,” he said.
He rejected suggestions that prominent politicians joining the APC were pressured or lured, stressing that such decisions were made voluntarily.
“Nobody is cajoling anyone. These are eminent leaders in our country, and they are joining our party of their own free will,” Morka stated.
Using Kano State as an example, the APC spokesperson noted that the decision of a sitting governor to join the party was a personal and voluntary choice.
“Kano is one of Nigeria’s most important states. If a governor in Kano decides to join our party, that decision is his alone,” he added.
Morka also praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as successful despite the initial difficulties associated with key policy reforms.
“The President has been remarkably successful, even within three years of his administration. While the policies were tough at the beginning, two years on, it is a new dawn in our country, and the results are becoming evident,” he said.
The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments across the country as parties position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
