DSS Rearrests Ex-AGF Malami After Bail, Opens Fresh Arms Probe

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has been taken into custody by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) shortly after meeting his bail conditions and leaving the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja.

DAILY POST reports that the former justice minister is now facing a fresh investigation by the secret police, barely hours after a Federal High Court granted him bail.

Sources disclosed that DSS officials intercepted Malami immediately after his release from Kuje Prison, where he had been held following charges earlier brought against him. The arrest is reportedly linked to a new probe involving the alleged discovery of arms at his country home in Kebbi State.

The weapons were said to have been uncovered during a search conducted by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), raising further security and legal concerns around the former minister.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Federal High Court granted Malami, his wife, and his son bail in the sum of ₦500 million each, with two sureties per defendant.

However, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami had alleged that the DSS was planning to re-arrest him. He claimed the secret police were already conducting surveillance around the Kuje Correctional Centre even before his release.

Despite fulfilling his bail conditions, the former AGF was reportedly taken into DSS custody immediately after exiting the prison facility.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the DSS nor the EFCC has issued an official statement on the latest development.
