A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group in Oyo State, Oyo PDP-Visionaries, has faulted former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over his allegation that Governor Seyi Makinde received N50 billion from the Federal Government as relief funds following the January 2024 Bodija explosion.
The group described the claim as false, misleading and deliberately aimed at discrediting the Oyo State governor.
DAILY POST recalls that Fayose had accused Makinde of diverting part of the alleged N50 billion said to have been released by the Federal Government to support victims of the tragic Bodija explosion.
Reacting in a statement signed by its coordinator, Qudus Olayide, and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Sunday, Oyo PDP-Visionaries dismissed Fayose’s allegations as baseless.
Olayide criticised Fayose for attempting to justify the claim by circulating a letter purportedly from the Ministry of Finance, noting that the document only contained requests from states and did not indicate any approval or disbursement of funds.
According to the group, it was regrettable that a former governor would allegedly misinform the public by presenting a request letter as evidence of fund approval, describing the action as deceptive and irresponsible.
The group challenged Fayose to make public any official document showing the approval or actual release of the alleged N50 billion, stressing that Nigerians are well informed enough to differentiate between a request and an approved allocation.
In a strongly worded response, Oyo PDP-Visionaries stated that “half-education is more dangerous than evil,” accusing Fayose of demonstrating a poor understanding of basic governance and financial procedures.
The group further alleged that Fayose’s repeated attacks on Makinde were driven by personal motives, describing his conduct as unserious and likening it to that of a “court jester.”
Olayide urged the former Ekiti governor to desist from actions capable of further embarrassing himself and Ekiti State, noting that as a two-term governor, Fayose ought to know better.
The group also commended Governor Makinde for what it described as transparent, accountable and people-oriented leadership, warning Fayose against distracting the Oyo State governor with what it termed “opportunistic and low-level politics.”
