FCT Area: PDP Declares Full Readiness for February 2026 Elections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced that it is fully prepared for the February 21, 2026, Area Council elections.

The party made this known in a statement issued on Sunday by its FCT Publicity Secretary, Josephine Itoyah-Splendor, stressing that all PDP candidates for the polls are duly qualified and officially recognised by both the party’s national leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The declaration comes amid ongoing internal disputes within the party, including tensions involving a faction reportedly aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other stakeholders.

However, the PDP dismissed concerns over its internal cohesion and the legitimacy of its candidates, describing such claims as misleading.

“Our candidates, men and women of proven integrity and commitment, have been duly approved and signed in by the Damagum-led National Working Committee,” the statement read.

The party further assured supporters and residents of the FCT that it is entering the elections united, confident, and focused on victory, insisting that reports questioning the eligibility of its candidates are nothing more than misinformation.
