Fayose Rules Out Defection to APC, Pledges Loyalty to Wike

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has dismissed speculation about a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains firmly rooted in the opposition party.

Speaking during an interview on TVC, the outspoken PDP chieftain declared his unwavering loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, stating that his political alignment is tied to wherever Wike stands.

“I’m a Wike person. Anywhere Wike is, that is where I am,” Fayose said.

Despite his repeated criticisms of the PDP leadership in the South-West, Fayose stressed that joining the APC is not an option for him. “I will never join the APC,” he added, reaffirming his continued commitment to the PDP.

Fayose was a prominent member of the G-5 Integrity Group within the PDP, led by Wike, which opposed the party’s presidential ticket during the 2023 general elections. The group worked against the PDP’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, citing his refusal to uphold the party’s zoning and rotation arrangement.

During the election period, Fayose, alongside Wike, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and others, openly supported President Bola Tinubu of the APC. Meanwhile, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, also a G-5 member, backed the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Fayose’s latest remarks appear to further underline the enduring political bond between him and Wike, even amid ongoing tensions within the PDP.
