The Accord Party has recorded a significant increase in membership across Nigeria following the defection of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to its platform, the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, has said.
Mgbudem disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, where he also dismissed reports of internal division within the party.
According to him, Adeleke’s entry into Accord, alongside his political associates and supporters, has boosted the party’s national visibility and acceptance ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
“Since His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, joined Accord along with his supporters, the party has witnessed tremendous national acceptance. Thousands of Nigerians across the country have now identified with Accord, clearly reflecting the governor’s political influence and national appeal,” Mgbudem said.
He added that the growing membership has strengthened the party’s position in Nigeria’s democratic space and reinforced its status as an emerging political force.
The chairman also addressed recent controversies surrounding the party’s former presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, who was recently expelled.
Mgbudem accused Imumolen of spreading misinformation and falsely claiming leadership positions within the party in an attempt to gain political relevance.
“It is laughable that Mr. Imumolen would arrogate to himself offices he never held, nor was appointed to or elected into. His claims exist only in his imagination and are an insult to the people of Osun State, who witnessed the transparent emergence of Governor Adeleke as Accord’s duly nominated governorship candidate,” he stated.
Reaffirming the unity of the party, Mgbudem dismissed allegations of factionalisation, insisting that Accord remains stable and focused on its electoral objectives.
“I state categorically that Accord is one of the most peaceful, united, and fastest-growing political parties in Nigeria today. There is no faction at any level of leadership. We will not be distracted by political opportunists seeking cheap publicity,” he said.
The party leadership maintained that it is fully prepared for upcoming elections and committed to consolidating its expanding national support base.
