The Centre for Leadership Legacy International (Centre LLI) has called on President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action against any conduct within his cabinet that could undermine public confidence in his administration.
In a statement released on Sunday, the civil society organisation (CSO) urged the president to investigate allegations of certificate forgery, focusing on the ongoing controversy surrounding his Minister of Interior, Olubumi Tunji-Ojo.
Signed by the centre’s spokesman, Davies Isaiah Ijele, the statement expressed concern over the government’s continued silence despite public outcry and repeated calls for verification of the minister’s academic credentials.
“The controversy over Tunji-Ojo’s certificates first emerged through an online news platform and has since dominated public discourse. Yet, the government has failed to act, fueling perceptions of complicity,” Ijele said.
The CSO warned that the growing perception of nepotism and selective justice under the Tinubu administration risks eroding trust in the government’s anti-corruption agenda.
Centre LLI also called on Minister Tunji-Ojo to clarify discrepancies around his WAEC certificate, noting that the examining authority had declined to verify his exam status under Section 14 (I) of the FOI Act.
“Why is WAEC refusing to respond to a simple demand? Why is Ojo himself avoiding disclosure of his WAEC examination centre and number? He should publish his certificate publicly, as others, like Dino Melaye, have done,” the statement added.
The CSO further criticised the government’s response to the controversy, alleging it has focused on defending the minister rather than conducting a proper investigation or taking punitive measures.
“Others with similar certificate issues were asked to resign or were dismissed. Why is the presidency silent on Tunji-Ojo?” the statement questioned.
