The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3) in both public and private secondary schools across Nigeria.
The directive, issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on Sunday, was signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo.
According to the ministry, the decision follows growing concerns over the rising cases of examination malpractice, particularly the use of so-called “special centres” during external examinations.
“These practices seriously undermine the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s education system,” the statement said.
The ban will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session. Under the new policy, admissions and transfers into senior secondary schools will be restricted strictly to SS1 and SS2.
The ministry stressed that the rule is absolute, noting that “admission or transfer into SS3 will no longer be permitted under any circumstance.”
Education stakeholders are expected to adjust admission processes in line with the directive as the government intensifies efforts to curb examination malpractice nationwide.
