A total of 150 delegates will on Wednesday elect the Osun State governorship candidate of the Accord Party, marking a major political shift barely 16 hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke formally joined the party at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo.
The Oasis Event Centre, Agunbelewo, venue of the primary, was heavily guarded as security operatives from the Department of State Services, the Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps mounted strict checks at the entrance to ensure orderliness.
Inside the hall, a special section was reserved for the accredited delegates, while observers and journalists took designated positions. Notably, many individuals in the observers’ area were identified as members of the Peoples Democratic Party and aides to Governor Adeleke, signaling heightened political intrigue around the exercise.
Speaking on the process, Osun State Accord Party Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, confirmed that the 150 accredited delegates would elect the party’s flag bearer for the forthcoming governorship election.
The development comes amid increased interest in Adeleke’s dramatic defection ahead of the 2026 Osun gubernatorial race.
