President Bola Tinubu’s Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) has effectively taken control of the entire South-South following the defection of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Fubara on Monday announced his move to the APC, accusing the PDP of abandoning him during the political turmoil that threatened his seat and career. He revealed that he turned to the federal government for protection at the height of the crisis, adding that the APC provided the support he needed to remain stable in office.
Reacting to the development, Bwala took to X to celebrate the governor’s decision, describing it as a major victory for the ruling party.
“With joy in my heart, I join all the progressives home and abroad in welcoming my dear friend and brother, His Excellency Sim Fubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). With this move, we can boldly say the entire South-South is now APC,” he wrote.
Fubara’s defection marks one of the most significant political shifts in the region ahead of the 2027 elections.
