Women and young girls of Idjerhe Community in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State have issued a firm warning to cultists, declaring that any youth caught killing fellow indigenes will be handed over to security agencies for prosecution.
The women made the declaration during a peaceful protest on Tuesday, sparked by the recent murder of four young men in a rival cult clash.
Chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with messages such as “Stop killing each other, we are one,” “Wives are becoming widows,” “We need peace in Jesse,” and “Our children are becoming fatherless,” the protesters marched through major streets, demanding an end to the violence that has repeatedly thrown families into mourning.
They lamented that persistent cult clashes have left several women widowed and many children without fathers. The protesters also held prayer sessions, asking for divine intervention and lasting peace in the community.
The women warned that the era of shielding cultists was over.
“If we catch anyone killing a fellow Idjerhe youth because of cult matters, we will invite the police and other security agents to arrest and prosecute you. We need peace in our land. Enough is enough,” they declared.
They urged the youths to renounce cultism and embrace peace, stressing that the community can no longer endure the constant loss of young lives.
