Abure Faction Begins Nationwide Labour Party Congresses

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has commenced its congresses across states in the Federation, with Abia State standing as the only exception following a court restriction.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the factional National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party announced that ward congresses began on Tuesday, December 2, while local government congresses are scheduled for Thursday, December 4.
The state congresses are expected to hold on Saturday, December 6 at the party headquarters in the respective states.

According to Ifoh, the Abia congress was suspended after the Abia State High Court restrained the party from conducting the exercise pending the determination of charges against the state’s party leadership.

“Though the party resolved to comply with the order, even though the court lacks jurisdiction, the legal department has already taken steps to vacate the order. This will enable Abia State to hold its own congress at a later date,” Ifoh noted.

He added that supervision teams deployed to various states had returned “positive reports” on the conduct and progress of the congresses nationwide.

The Labour Party leadership urged Nigerians to rally behind the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying it is undergoing a strategic repositioning to strengthen its capacity to provide national leadership.
