The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the withdrawal of 11,566 police officers previously attached to Very Important Personalities (VIPs) across the country, following a direct order from President Bola Tinubu.
Egbetokun disclosed this on Thursday during a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja. He stated that the presidential directive empowered him to enforce the withdrawal fully and without obstruction, adding that no VIP would be permitted to challenge the decision since it emanated from the highest authority in the country.
He urged officers affected by the redeployment to uphold professionalism and rededicate themselves to national security duties. According to him, the police must intensify efforts and maintain a 24-hour vigilance to curb criminal activities nationwide.
The IGP reiterated that the force remains committed to tackling the nation’s security challenges and is working closely with other security agencies to bolster safety across all regions.
