Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged the Federal Government to prioritise the recruitment of military and police personnel from areas most affected by insecurity and deploy them to serve in their states of origin.
Sani, in a post shared on his verified X account on Wednesday, argued that security officers stand a better chance of defeating terrorists and bandits when they operate on familiar terrain. According to him, officers posted to their home states would navigate the environment more effectively than those deployed from distant regions.
He also emphasised the need for improved training and the provision of advanced equipment to strengthen frontline operations.
His remarks come amid persistent nationwide security crises, including frequent abductions of citizens and schoolchildren.
“In combating bandits and terrorists, the recruitment of military and police personnel should place emphasis on regions with the highest levels of insecurity,” Sani wrote.
“They should be recruited, trained, equipped and sent to their states and regions to fight the criminals. They know their terrain better than anyone,” he added.
