The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says the FCT Administration is currently funding ongoing infrastructure projects from its internally approved budget, as the Federal Government is yet to release the 2025 national budget to the territory.
Wike made the disclosure on Monday while speaking with journalists during an inspection of the six-lane road under construction from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road 3 near Karmo, Abuja. The project is scheduled for completion in January 2026.
“We are implementing the budget as it concerns the FCT. We have not received any funds from this year’s national budget, but we believe that before the end of the year, funds will be released,” he said.
According to him, the administration is currently relying on its own budgetary provisions to keep major projects running.
“What we are using for now is the FCT budget, which made adequate provision for this N5. The one of N2, which links the Central Area to Wuse, is already going through emergency procurement,” he added.
Wike also addressed concerns over the bus terminals commissioned earlier this year but still not operational.
He explained that the delay is tied to ongoing procurement processes and verification of operators who applied to run the terminals.
“It’s not a matter of being quiet. We are ensuring that those who applied to operate the facilities are fulfilling their contractual obligations. The procurement is ongoing. We want to see the number of fleets they have, but we believe that before the end of the year, that would have been done,” he said.
