NNPP Warns INEC, Public to Ignore Kwankwaso-Led “Illegal Congresses”

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the general public to disregard the congresses reportedly organized by the Kwankwasiya Movement under the leadership of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing the exercise as unconstitutional and without legitimacy.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, said the court-ordered NNPP congresses had already been conducted and concluded in line with due process.

This comes after the Kwankwaso-led faction wrote to INEC announcing plans to hold fresh congresses and a national convention between November 25 and January 2026.

The NNPP maintained that the Kwankwasiya group lacks the authority to convene any congress on behalf of the party, stressing that the Memorandum of Association signed with Kwankwaso ahead of the 2023 presidential election had long expired.

The party also reiterated that Kwankwaso — its 2023 presidential candidate — and several loyalists in the Kwankwasiya movement remain expelled for alleged anti-party activities.

“We find it shocking that someone of Kwankwaso’s calibre is still attempting to take over a party that offered him a platform to contest the last presidential election without collecting a dime,” the statement said.

The NNPP called on INEC to uphold the rule of law by recognizing and reflecting the authentic leadership structure of the party on its official website, in line with existing court judgments.
