Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described the passing of Barrister Segun Awolowo Jnr as a devastating loss to the Yoruba nation and Nigeria at large.
In a statement released through his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said the news of Awolowo’s death came as a rude shock.
“The news of the demise of my friend and brother, Segun, came to me unexpectedly. I am in shock. But who are we to question the decision of our Creator? He determines when we arrive and when we depart,” he said.
Akpabio extended his condolences to the Awolowo family of Ikenne, Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the people of the state, noting that the loss is irreplaceable.
He described Awolowo as a brilliant legal mind whose life and achievements motivated many Nigerians to aspire for excellence. He added that Segun’s death is not only a family tragedy but a national one.
According to the Senate President, Awolowo’s legacy as a dedicated lawyer, loving family man, and compassionate public figure will remain a source of inspiration. He noted that his contributions to the legal profession and society would endure for generations.
“On behalf of the people of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District and the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I pray that his soul rests in perfect peace, and that his family, friends, and associates find strength in the cherished memories he leaves behind,” Akpabio said.
He prayed for God to grant the Awolowo family the strength to bear the loss and expressed hope that Segun Awolowo Jnr’s legacy would continue to inspire Nigerians.
