A Federal High Court has prohibited IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, from using any digital device — including mobile phones and computers — while serving his life sentence for terrorism.
Delivering judgment, Justice James Omotosho described Kanu as a terrorist whose activities triggered violence, bloodshed, and widespread instability across the South-East.
According to the judge, evidence before the court showed that Kanu previously used digital devices to transmit messages that fuelled attacks and atrocities.
He ruled that Kanu must not have access to such devices unless strictly monitored by the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Justice Omotosho also ordered that Kanu be kept in protective custody at any suitable correctional facility nationwide, citing the scale of killings and the toll on residents of the region.
In addition, the court directed the forfeiture of the transmitter linked to the alleged criminal broadcasts to the Federal Government.
Meanwhile, Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, has disclosed that the defence team is preparing the next legal steps following the life-imprisonment verdict.
