A 74-year-old man on Saturday became the first voter to cast his ballot at Polling Unit 003, Awka 2 Ward 6, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The elderly voter, who declined to disclose his name, arrived early at the polling unit and exercised his civic duty at exactly 8:56 a.m., officially marking the commencement of voting in the area.

Dressed simply and appearing calm, the senior citizen drew attention from observers and electoral officials, symbolizing civic responsibility and commitment to democratic participation.

The ongoing Anambra governorship election features 16 candidates representing 16 political parties, all seeking to unseat the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Voting commenced under tight security across the state, with accreditation and balloting taking place simultaneously in many polling units.
