JAMB Extends 2025 Admission Deadline for Public Universities to November 17

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the 2025 admission deadline for public universities from October 31 to November 17, 2025.

The board announced the extension in a statement issued by its Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, explaining that the decision became necessary due to emerging challenges that disrupted the admission process in some institutions.

JAMB recalled that during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on July 18 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, it had initially fixed October 31 as the deadline for all public universities to conclude admissions.

According to the board, the timeline was originally designed to allow private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions to finalise their own admission exercises before the overall national closing date of December 31, 2025.

However, the extension was prompted by two major developments — an appeal by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) following disruptions caused by a court order that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission process, and the recent accreditation of 229 new academic programmes across 37 universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on October 29.

“These developments made it necessary to adjust the schedule to ensure fairness and inclusiveness,” the statement read. “In light of these developments, and to ensure fairness and inclusiveness, the Board hereby extends the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, November 17, 2025.”

JAMB commended universities that had already concluded their admission processes within the earlier timeline but urged all public institutions to make full use of the new window.

“While expressing appreciation to all institutions for their cooperation and effort toward meeting the initial target, the Board wishes to emphasise that this new deadline must be strictly adhered to,” Dr. Benjamin stated.

He reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to a seamless, transparent, and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals while respecting the autonomy of individual institutions.
