Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as being in a state of total collapse, declaring that the once-dominant opposition party has become a shadow of its former self.
Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, Fayose said recent developments within the party have dashed any hope of the PDP returning to power soon, lamenting that the leadership vacuum and internal wrangling have crippled the organisation.
“The PDP is in a hopeless situation and a shadow of itself,” the former governor said. “The party needs a leader who can reunite everybody at this time. There is no hope of PDP coming back for now. Even the captains of our boat are jumping ship. They are moving from one bed to another. So, who is going to hold the party together?”
Fayose, a long-standing member of the PDP, said the party has “reasonably gone into extinction,” blaming its current woes on what he called the incompetence of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the National Working Committee (NWC).
He alleged that the present leadership has turned the PDP into a burial ground rather than a political force.
“The Damagum-led National Working Committee are undertakers. They have come to bury the party,” Fayose said. “They are leaving in less than one or two months, yet they are still suspending and counter-suspending members.”
Fayose’s comments reflect growing discontent within the PDP as prominent figures continue to express frustration over the party’s direction and leadership crisis.
