Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Federal Government of disobeying a 2022 Court of Appeal judgment ordering the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Sowore made the disclosure on Monday during an interview on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme monitored by DAILY POST.
Reacting to the protest held in Abuja demanding Kanu’s release, Sowore, who organized the Free Nnamdi Kanu demonstration, said the group was attacked by police officers during the march.
“We were attacked by the Nigeria Police. I haven’t done anything wrong in this protest, yet we ended up at the FCT Police Command,” he stated.
According to him, Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, his brother, and eleven others were also arrested during the protest.
Speaking further, Sowore stressed that the appellate court’s ruling in 2022 ordering Kanu’s release should have taken immediate effect.
“That judgment ought to have taken effect immediately it was given, but the Nigerian government did not honour it,” he added.
