Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed speculations of division within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), assuring that all internal matters are being resolved amicably as a “family affair.”
Speaking in Abuja after presiding over the inaugural meeting of the Accommodation Sub-Committee of the PDP National Convention Committee, where he serves as Deputy Chairman, Adeleke said preparations for the October 15–16 convention were already in top gear.
“We have concluded our inaugural meeting, and all outstanding issues have been resolved to ensure a smooth and successful convention. The PDP has a long tradition of internal organisation and respect for due process,” he said.
Reacting to reports of internal wrangling, Adeleke urged Nigerians to disregard claims of crisis within the party.
“I can assure you we are resolving our issues internally. It is a family affair — no outsider should add sugar, pepper, or salt to it. The PDP is a family, and we know how to manage our affairs,” he said.
On reports of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor maintained that such moves were normal in politics and would not weaken the PDP.
“Anybody — whether a governor or minister — has the right to make personal decisions. That doesn’t change the PDP’s strength or structure. We still have a solid membership base and support nationwide,” Adeleke stated.
He also clarified that attending social events organised by APC members should not be mistaken for plans to defect.
“If my friends in the APC invite me to a wedding, I’ll attend. That doesn’t mean I’m joining them,” he explained.
Expressing optimism ahead of the national convention, Adeleke said the event would further consolidate the PDP’s unity and organisational strength.
“By God’s grace, our convention will be a huge success, and the PDP will continue to grow from strength to strength,” he added.
