The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at veteran journalist and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, describing him as a “serial political tourist” unqualified to offer strategic counsel on defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Reacting to Momodu’s suggestion that the opposition should play the ethnic and religious cards, the party’s spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said such tactics are outdated and incapable of stopping Tinubu’s political momentum.
In a statement issued on Friday, Oladejo mocked Momodu’s political record, saying, “What moral or strategic authority does Dele Momodu possess to lecture anyone about political strategy? A man whose own political journey is a tale of failed experiments and misplaced ambition.”
He added that Momodu’s past electoral outing was “so embarrassing that even his polling agents couldn’t locate his tally on the result sheet,” describing him as a commentator “loud on talk, empty on substance, and perpetually chasing validation from political heavyweights.”
Oladejo said it was “comic relief” that Momodu, whose influence is “confined to social media timelines,” now wants to dictate the opposition’s roadmap to 2027.
He stressed that Nigeria’s electorate has outgrown ethnic and religious manipulation, noting that “under President Tinubu, Nigeria is being rebuilt on the foundation of equity, inclusion, and reform — from infrastructural renewal to economic stabilisation and social investment.”
Oladejo advised Momodu to “rediscover his own political direction” before offering guidance to others, insisting that the 2027 election will be “a referendum on competence and performance, not ethnicity or nostalgia.”
“Truth be told,” he concluded, “political realists have accepted the defeat of the opposition come 2027. Dele Momodu’s brand of political showmanship will have no place in that contest.”
