Soludo Caps Traffic Fines at ₦10,000, Moves to End Extortion of Motorists in Anambra

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has unveiled a new policy aimed at easing the financial burden on motorists, announcing that traffic offenders in the state will no longer be charged more than ₦10,000 for any offence.

Before now, many offenders reportedly paid as much as ₦50,000 to enforcement officers — a practice the governor condemned as exploitative and unacceptable.

“Effective from October 14, 2025, the maximum fine for any traffic offence in Anambra will be capped at ₦10,000, regardless of the violation,” Soludo declared.

The governor made the announcement at a mega rally held at the Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha, organized by transport stakeholders to endorse his second-term re-election bid.

Soludo explained that the decision was part of his administration’s effort to promote fairness and ease the economic strain on citizens struggling with rising living costs.

“The policy is designed to alleviate the economic hardship faced by our people. Law enforcement must be firm but compassionate,” he stated.

He also announced the creation of a special task force to curb illegal tax collection, warning that anyone collecting cash on behalf of the government must remit it directly into official coffers. Additionally, the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) will begin designating and clearly marking official bus stops across the state.

Highlighting the importance of transportation to the state’s economy, Soludo said: “Our government has built and repaired more kilometers of roads than any administration in less than four years — and we are just getting started.”

Commissioner for Transportation, Barr. Patricia Igwebuike, described the transport sector as “a vital part of every household in Anambra,” praising the governor for aligning state transport development with the maritime, aviation, and blue economy sectors.

Other stakeholders, including the Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, Mr. Celestine Anere; Managing Director of ARTMA, Mr. Emeka Okonkwo; and Managing Director of the Transport Company of Anambra State, Mr. Chike Obiakor, lauded the Soludo administration for eliminating touting and introducing digital tax systems.

They pledged their full support for the governor’s re-election, describing themselves as his “foot soldiers” ahead of the November 8 gubernatorial election.
