Mahdi Shehu Blasts Primate Ayodele Over ‘Coup Prophecy’, Calls It False and Attention-Seeking

Public affairs commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has slammed Primate Elijah Ayodele over his recent prophecy alleging a planned coup to remove President Bola Tinubu between November 2025 and January 2026.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Shehu described the prophecy as “attention-seeking and misguided by a false spirit.”

He argued that in a “normal society where suspects are not cherry-picked,” the cleric should be questioned and made to provide names and details of those allegedly plotting the coup, describing such a statement as bordering on a treasonable offence.

“Before the primate is treated in the right manner, if he ever will be, all right-thinking Nigerians must ignore him and treat his so-called spiritual alert with caution and maturity,” Shehu wrote.

Citing several Bible verses, the commentator warned against false prophets and attention seekers who exploit religion to manipulate public emotions.

According to him, “The Bible warned people against false prophets and speculation. Not everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit of God is truthful.”

Shehu also accused Nigerians of hypocrisy, insisting that if a Muslim cleric had made a similar claim, there would have been nationwide outrage and calls for arrest.

“If a sheikh or malam had made such a claim, the whole country would be in uproar, with headlines calling for his arrest and even tribunal trial,” he said.

Mahdi concluded that Nigeria has become a country flooded with fake alarms and hypocrisy, urging citizens to disregard divisive and baseless prophecies.
