Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged members of the 2025 Batch B, Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to take full advantage of the scheme’s skill acquisition programme to build capacity and create wealth.
Governor Fubara gave the charge on Tuesday while declaring closed the orientation course at the NYSC camp. He was represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Hon. Benibo Anabraba.
He encouraged the Corps members to see the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development training as a pathway to self-reliance and job creation, stressing the importance of competing effectively in Nigeria’s expanding economic space.
“Take Rivers State as your home. Be assured of the warmth and hospitality of our people,” he said. “Take the post-camp training seriously and equip yourselves to become wealth creators and employers of labour.”
Fubara also reminded the Corps members that their mobilisation into the NYSC scheme represents a call to selfless and honourable service to the nation.
In his farewell address, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Moses Oleghe, urged the Corps members to use their service year to discover purpose, serve humanity with empathy, and make meaningful contributions to their host communities.
The NYSC scheme, established under General Yakubu Gowon’s administration, remains a unifying national programme aimed at fostering reconstruction and reconciliation after the Nigerian Civil War.
