Nigerians Gained Nothing from Fuel Subsidy Removal — Kenneth Okonkwo

Veteran Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying Nigerians have not benefited in any way from the removal of fuel subsidy.

Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the remark on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm.

When asked what made President Tinubu’s Independence Day address different from previous ones, the lawyer stated that most Nigerians no longer look forward to the president’s speeches.

“I listened to it only because I’m a public affairs analyst. People will question me about it — otherwise, I wouldn’t have bothered. Why should anyone listen to propaganda?” he said.

Okonkwo lamented that, unlike past leaders who spoke the truth, the Tinubu administration has spent two years feeding citizens with propaganda.

“The president said Nigerians are benefitting from the subsidy removal — that’s a lie,” he said. “I used to buy fuel for N195 per litre; now I pay N1,000 for the same thing, and you tell me I’m benefitting? Nigerians have gained nothing from the fuel subsidy removal or from the government’s borrowings.”
