A top aide to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has waved aside the new political coalition recently unveiled by opposition leaders, describing it as a gathering of “expired politicians” with no real influence on Nigeria’s political landscape.
Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, made the remarks on Tuesday during a media chat with journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Kano.
According to him, President Tinubu remains unshaken by the alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The president is not disturbed at all. Those leading the coalition are people who have no political weight. Many of them have contested several times and failed. Their popularity is fading,” Abdulaziz said.
He further described the coalition leaders as “bitter individuals” who are more concerned about exclusion from power than about the welfare of Nigerians.
“They only care that they are not at the table of power. Nigerians understand this, and that’s why their coalition is not gaining support,” he added.
Abdulaziz maintained that President Tinubu is prioritizing nation-building and making tough but necessary decisions such as fuel subsidy reforms, the student loan scheme, and major infrastructure projects.
Responding to claims that the administration is favoring the South with projects, he dismissed the allegation, citing several ongoing projects in the North, including the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway, and the Kano-Katsina-Maradi rail line.
“If the president didn’t care about the North, he would have abandoned these projects. Instead, he has continued funding them,” Abdulaziz noted.
He also revealed that the federal government is initiating fresh projects like the Sokoto-Badagry highway, stressing that the Tinubu administration is committed to equitable development across all regions of the country.
