The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State has elected Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu as its new state chairman after a hotly contested race.
Halidu secured 1,289 votes to edge out his closest rival, Yahaya Abdullahi (popularly known as Ability), who polled 1,260 votes.
Other winners include Hadi Kuta, who emerged as State Secretary, and Mrs. Salomi Ndakosu, who clinched the position of Woman Leader with 1,373 votes, defeating Mrs. Ramotu Jibrin, who garnered 590 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Halidu called for unity within the party and urged members to close ranks in preparation for future elections.
He expressed optimism about PDP’s chances of reclaiming power in the state and beyond, stressing the importance of collective effort to restore the party’s prominence.
Halidu further charged party faithful to begin working towards victory in the November local government elections, describing them as a stepping stone to the 2027 general elections.
