Mystery Drones Trigger Security Alert Over Denmark’s Largest Military Base

Unidentified drones were spotted hovering over Denmark’s largest military base on Friday night, prompting renewed fears of what officials are describing as “hybrid attacks.”

Police confirmed that the incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. local time (1815 GMT) and lasted for several hours over the Karup military base, which also shares its runways with Midtjylland civilian airport.

“One to two drones were observed outside and over the airbase,” duty officer Simon Skelsjaer told AFP. “We didn’t take them down.”

The Midtjylland airport was briefly closed as a precaution, though no commercial flights were affected at the time. Authorities said they are working closely with the military to determine the source of the drones.

The sightings mark the latest in a string of drone-related disruptions across Denmark. Since Monday, several airports in the Scandinavian country have faced temporary closures after multiple reports of unidentified drones.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that “over recent days, Denmark has been the victim of hybrid attacks,” a term used to describe unconventional forms of warfare that blend cyber, propaganda, and physical threats.

Investigations into the mysterious drones are still underway.
