Public affairs analyst and coordinator of the Progressive Foundation Movement (PFM), Olaniyi Olawale, has explained why the North-West region is expected to throw its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
According to Olawale, Tinubu’s administration has embarked on several landmark infrastructural projects across the region, many of which are nearing completion. He cited the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano expressway, the Kano–Maiduguri road (sections 1 to 4), and the Kano–Katsina project as examples of the president’s commitment to the North.
“The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road is almost completed. Kano-Maiduguri sections 1, 2, 3, and 4 are almost completed. The Kano-Katsina project is almost completed,” he said.
He further revealed that President Tinubu is expected in Kano within the next two months to lay the foundation for a multi-billion-dollar Light Rail project in the state.
“That project will cost more than one billion US dollars and, of course, is going to be one of the most important projects in Northern Nigeria,” Olawale added.
The PFM coordinator noted that these developments justified the rallying of Kano stakeholders around the president. Former APC national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, the chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Bichi, and other political heavyweights had on Thursday mobilised support for Tinubu, citing his administration’s developmental strides in the region.
