The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has urged Nigerians to seek the expertise of pharmacists not only for medicines but also for preventive health and lifestyle guidance, stressing that no health system can thrive without their contributions.
Chairman of PSN, Ogun State Chapter, Pharm. Oyesunlola Okunuga, gave the charge on Wednesday in Abeokuta as part of activities marking the 2025 World Pharmacists Day, themed “Think Health, Think Pharmacist.”
Okunuga noted that consulting pharmacists guarantees better health outcomes and stronger communities, while also ensuring safer treatment plans.
“The public must take advantage of the pharmacist’s accessibility by seeking their expertise not only for medicines, but also for preventive health and lifestyle guidance,” she said.
According to her, the theme of this year’s celebration envisions a world where people truly value health and recognize the professionals who make it possible.
“The message is clear: no health system can thrive without pharmacists. Behind every safe medicine is the pharmacist who ensures quality and proper use. Behind every successful treatment plan is the pharmacist who provides the right guidance. Behind every healthy community is the pharmacist who educates, advocates, and innovates,” she stated.
Okunuga also called on policymakers to create an enabling environment for pharmacists to fully utilize their skills at all levels of healthcare delivery. She emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure better patient outcomes.
While commending Nigerian pharmacists for their commitment and resilience, she described their daily sacrifices as “the backbone of healthier communities.”
