Ondo Mourns as Chief Imam of Owo, Sheikh Ahmad Aladesawe, Dies at 91

OWO, ONDO STATE — The Chief Imam of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State League of Imams and Alfas, Sheikh Ahmad Oladoke Aladesawe, has passed away at the age of 91.

His death was announced on Tuesday by Alhaji Kamorudeen Ishola, a Muslim leader in Owo, who disclosed that the respected cleric died on Monday evening at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.

Describing him as a revered Islamic scholar and community leader, Ishola said Sheikh Aladesawe devoted his entire life to the propagation of Islam and the service of humanity.

The late Imam was laid to rest in Owo on Tuesday afternoon according to Islamic rites.

In a condolence message, the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Ondo State chapter, described his death as a monumental loss to the Muslim Ummah.

Alhaji Abdulwaasii Yusuf, the State Missioner of NACOMYO, said: “Baba was a strong pillar of support for NACOMYO and one of the greatest Islamic scholars to have lived in this part of the world. May Allah accept his good deeds, forgive his shortcomings, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.”

Before his passing, Sheikh Aladesawe also served as the Secretary General of the League of Imams and Alfas in South West, Edo, and Delta States.

Widely admired for his scholarship, leadership, and peace-building efforts, his death has been described by sympathizers as an irreplaceable loss to Ondo State and the Nigerian Muslim community.

Prayers continue to be offered for his soul to find eternal rest in Aljana Firdaus.
