ABUJA — The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has thrown down the gauntlet to all presidential aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections, urging them to submit themselves to the same level of public scrutiny faced by Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Speaking on Prime Time, an Arise Television programme, on Wednesday, Tanko said no other candidate in recent Nigerian history has endured as much political attack as Obi — yet propagandists have failed to pin any wrongdoing on him.
“When you look at the narrative of individuals being attacked, Peter Obi is one of the most highly attacked individuals in Nigerian politics today. And not because he is Peter Obi, but because of what he’s bringing to the table — changing the narrative from an old order to a new order,” Tanko said.
Challenging Obi’s rivals, Tanko declared: “I want to challenge any Nigerian candidate that can present himself for scrutiny of this nature. None of them can face the scrutiny of the security. They’ve looked everywhere to find any negative thing about him, but they couldn’t find it.”
He praised Obi’s intolerance for incompetence, describing it as rare in Nigeria’s political culture.
Tanko also expressed concern over the harsh economic realities faced by citizens, linking them to government policies on taxation.
“My condolences to Nigerians, not because they are dead, but because of the rate at which taxation is negatively affecting their lives. These are the same people this government swore by the Quran to protect and make comfortable,” he lamented.
