Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that his multibillion-dollar fortune was self-made, not inherited from his father as many believe.
In a Bloomberg interview that resurfaced online on Tuesday, the Nigerian billionaire businessman emphasized that while his father was “fairly rich” through business and politics, he chose not to rely on that wealth.
Dangote disclosed that whatever assets he inherited were handed over to charity, underscoring his pride in having built his empire independently.
“One thing that I’m very, very proud of is that I did not inherit any money from my father. I built everything from scratch to get to where I am,” he said.
“Whatever I inherited from him, which means in assets, I gave that on to charity since then,” he added.
According to Forbes, Dangote’s net worth stood at $23.9 billion in 2024, cementing his position as Africa’s wealthiest individual.
