The family of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has been thrown into mourning following the death of her younger sister, Ruth Otabor.
Ruth, who was recently involved in a ghastly accident with a Dangote Cement truck in Auchi, Edo State, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 31, 2025.
In a statement issued by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the family, Ruth was confirmed dead at about 6:30 a.m.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on Sunday, 31st day of August, 2025, at about 06:30 hrs,” the statement read.
The tragic incident occurred on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic, just six days after Ruth graduated from the institution. She was reportedly crushed by a Dangote Cement truck, an accident that led to the amputation of her legs.
The development sparked outrage after Phyna alleged that the cement company failed to fulfill its promise of sending her sister abroad for advanced treatment. Dangote Cement had earlier pledged to cover Ruth’s medical bills.
Her untimely death has continued to draw widespread sympathy, with many describing it as a heartbreaking loss for the Otabor family.
