Ex-Senator Kabiru Marafa Dumps APC, Says Party ‘Betrayed and Divided Zamfara Members’

Former Zamfara Central Senator, Kabiru Marafa, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of betrayal and sowing deep divisions among its members in Zamfara State.

Marafa, who made the announcement in a video address to his supporters, said his decision followed days of consultations with political allies across the state and beyond.

“I want to use this medium to inform my supporters in Zamfara State, the North, and Nigeria as a whole that after a series of meetings with my people for about two days regarding the issue of politics starting from two years back of the APC government, we feel it is necessary to inform the public that APC as a party has betrayed and cheated us in Zamfara State and Nigeria,” Marafa declared.

The former lawmaker, speaking in Hausa, lamented that the betrayal within the party had reached its peak under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, who succeeded former Zamfara governor Bello Matawalle in party affairs.

“In the state, the betrayal is at its highest peak because since Bala Buni took over the affairs of the party from former governor Matawalle, they have not held a single meeting up till this moment,” he said.

Marafa further alleged that the APC in Zamfara has been split into two warring factions for over two years — one loyal to Buni and the other to Matawalle — with no meaningful efforts made to reconcile them.

He stressed that the unresolved crisis and neglect of members convinced him it was time to walk away from the ruling party.
