ABUJA — The Federal Government has celebrated Nafisah Abdullahi, Nigeria’s shining star at the TeenEagle Global Finals, with a cash gift of N200,000 for her outstanding performance in the prestigious international academic competition.
At a recognition ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suiwaba Ahmad, hailed Nafisah as “a beacon of excellence and inspiration to Nigerian youths.”
Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisah triumphed over more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries — including native English-speaking nations — to clinch the global title. The TeenEagle contest evaluates students’ proficiency in English, critical thinking, and communication skills.
The government’s recognition comes shortly after the Atiku Foundation awarded Nafisah and her teammates, Rukaiya Fema and Khadija Kalli, fully funded scholarships in honour of their remarkable success at the competition.
“You are the future of Nigeria, and you have made us proud,” Alausa said, noting that President Bola Tinubu had given unprecedented support to education, reflected in what he described as “one of the highest budgetary allocations to the sector in Nigeria’s history.”
He added that each time the ministry seeks presidential approval for education projects, “the President’s response has always been a resounding yes because he believes in you, the children of Nigeria.”
Alongside Nafisah, other students who excelled in the competition also received cash rewards of over N100,000 each.
On her part, Prof. Ahmad praised Nafisah’s “resilience, intellect, and determination,” assuring that the Federal Government would continue to support young talents who bring honour to the country.
“Nigerian youths can compete and excel globally. Nafisah has shown that Nigeria is blessed and can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world. She is a shining example,” Ahmad said.
In her remarks, Nafisah expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, the ministers, her school, and her parents for their support.
The Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Abba Idris, also commended the gesture, stressing that the state government remains committed to celebrating milestones in education.
With this achievement, Nafisah has etched her name in history as one of Nigeria’s brightest young minds and a global symbol of academic excellence.
