ABUJA — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, in what is seen as a major shake-up ahead of the next general elections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, announced the decision on Thursday while briefing journalists shortly after the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
Ologunagba explained that the resolution followed the presentation of a report by the Zoning Committee led by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.
He added that the NEC also resolved to maintain the existing zoning arrangement for the National Working Committee (NWC) positions ahead of the party’s elective convention in November.
“NEC recommended that the North and South should retain their current NWC positions,” Ologunagba said.
He stressed further: “Since the National Chairman of the party is zoned to the North, the PDP 2027 presidential ticket is hereby zoned to the South.”
The decision is expected to spark fresh political calculations within the opposition party as it prepares to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
