“No Talks with Terrorists” — Zamfara Gov Lawal

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has restated his administration’s uncompromising position against negotiating with bandits, vowing never to engage with those behind the state’s relentless wave of violence.

Speaking on Thursday during a condolence visit to communities recently attacked by gunmen, the governor declared that security remains his government’s top priority and that his stance on dealing with bandits “will not change.”

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Lawal visited Kagara, Dan Isa, and Kasuwar Daji in Kauran Namoda Local Government Area as part of an ongoing tour to commiserate with victims and assess the extent of destruction firsthand.

“Yesterday, I began a condolence tour to communities targeted by bandits. Since we couldn’t conclude the visit, we resumed today and reached three more communities. I met with residents and conveyed the government’s support and encouragement,” Lawal said.

He stressed that his administration is deploying all available resources to safeguard lives and property across Zamfara.

“From the onset of my tenure, I made it clear: we will not negotiate with bandits. That position remains unchanged and will not change. These criminals have consistently shown no sincerity or remorse,” he stated.

The governor also noted the poor state of access roads to the affected areas, pledging urgent rehabilitation to enhance security response and boost local development.

Governor Lawal’s visits, the statement added, demonstrate his government’s determination to confront insecurity head-on while tackling the infrastructural deficits that make rural communities more vulnerable to attacks.
