INEC Begins Distribution of Sensitive Materials for Edo By-Elections

BENIN CITY — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive election materials to local government areas in Edo State ahead of Saturday’s scheduled by-elections.

The distribution exercise was carried out on Thursday at the Benin branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with representatives of political parties and civil society organisations present to monitor proceedings.

Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Anugbum Onuoha, said the commission deliberately involved all political parties fielding candidates to ensure transparency and build public trust in the process.

“The exercise so far has been seamless, and we are fully prepared,” Onuoha told journalists. “The sensitive materials will be dispatched from here to the seven local government areas where the elections will take place.”

According to the REC, stakeholders present expressed satisfaction with INEC’s handling of the materials, further boosting confidence ahead of the polls.
