ABUJA — Former Sokoto State governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, is currently being interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals amounting to N189 billion.
According to The Cable, Tambuwal is in EFCC custody as investigators probe the multi-billion-naira transactions reportedly linked to his tenure as governor.
The development comes amid accusations from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the anti-graft agency is engaging in selective prosecution aimed at opposition figures.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC alleged that recent EFCC invitations to senior members of the opposition coalition were politically motivated, with some cases involving the revival of years-old files rather than fresh evidence.
The EFCC has not yet issued an official statement on Tambuwal’s interrogation as at press time.
