The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed the discovery of technical bugs in the just-released 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, prompting an urgent internal review and temporary suspension of access to the result checker portal.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its Public Affairs Department, the council admitted that the errors affected results in key subjects — Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics — and were linked to a new examination security innovation recently introduced.
WAEC said the technical glitch was detected after an internal post-release audit, following a wave of public complaints and irregularities noticed by candidates.
“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation (paper serialization) already deployed by a national examination body. However, this led to some unforeseen technical issues in the released results,” the statement read.
The council offered an unreserved apology to affected candidates and the general public, assuring them that the issue is being resolved swiftly and transparently.
“Access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results has been temporarily denied on the result checker portal. We appreciate the patience and understanding of all stakeholders and assure that the matter will be resolved within the next 24 hours.”
WAEC advised all candidates who had previously checked their results to revisit the portal after 24 hours to confirm updated and corrected scores.
The examination body reiterated its commitment to fairness, professionalism, and integrity in its assessment processes, adding that it remains dedicated to delivering quality service to Nigerian students.
The council’s swift response is expected to calm growing anxiety among candidates and parents, as the affected subjects are core requirements for tertiary admission.
