IBADAN — Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to merit-based appointments, declaring that excellence, competence, and value addition will always outweigh political affiliation, ethnicity, or sentiment in his government.
Makinde made this known on Tuesday during the inauguration of members of the Oyo State Judicial Service Commission, held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
According to the governor, only those who can meaningfully contribute to the state’s growth will be considered for public appointments — regardless of their political background or state of origin.
“Wherever we can find talent that can add value to us as a state, I will go for such a person,” Makinde said, emphasizing that performance and expertise will always trump partisanship.
He charged the newly inaugurated commission members to uphold professionalism and work diligently to advance the judicial arm of the state.
The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, will serve as Chairperson of the commission, while Mrs. M.O. Abdulganiyu will function as Secretary.
Other members sworn in include the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Abiodun Aikomo; Mr. Musibau Adetunji; Chief Joshua Abioye; Chief Moyosore Ajani; and Mr. Wahab Adedigba.
Makinde’s remarks come as a reinforcement of his administration’s mantra of good governance driven by competence and capacity.
