Tinubu Honours Super Falcons with National Awards, $100K and Homes After WAFCON Victory

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred national honours and announced generous rewards for Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

During a reception held at the Presidential Villa on Monday, President Tinubu celebrated the team’s resilience and determination, describing their victory as “truly historic” and a source of national pride.

The Super Falcons clinched their 10th WAFCON title on Saturday after a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over hosts Morocco — a victory that sealed their status as the most successful women’s national team on the continent.

In recognition of their achievement, the President conferred on each of the 24 players and the 11-member technical crew the national honour of the Order of the Niger (OON).

As part of the reward package, each player will receive a three-bedroom apartment and a cash reward of $100,000 (in naira equivalent), while members of the technical team will each receive $50,000.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, I hereby confer on the players and the technical team the national honour of the Order of the Niger (OON),” President Tinubu announced. “I also allocate a three-bedroom flat to each of the players and the crew. Once again, I congratulate you and I will continue to pray for your success.”

The jubilant players erupted in celebration inside the Villa, dancing and singing, “Na our papa be this o,” in appreciation of the President’s gesture.

President Tinubu also shared a light moment with the team, revealing that he chose not to watch the final live due to the tension. “I didn’t want to have high blood pressure,” he said with a smile.

Led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who presented the trophy to the President, the Super Falcons expressed their gratitude and promised to continue making the country proud on the global stage.

The 2025 WAFCON victory marks Nigeria’s return to continental dominance and boosts morale ahead of the upcoming international competitions.
