Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has vowed to revisit Edo State despite recent threats allegedly issued by the state governor, Monday Okpebholo, warning that the former Anambra governor’s safety would not be guaranteed.
Speaking to journalists in Awka, Anambra State, Obi dismissed the threats, saying he receives similar warnings daily across Nigeria but remains undeterred in his commitment to serving the public and investing in human capital.
“Threats don’t mean anything to me. I receive threats every day, even beyond the ones you hear about,” Obi stated. “If I have the opportunity to return to Benin to make donations again, trust me, I will.”
He emphasized that his visit to Edo State was solely to invest in healthcare and education, adding that Governor Okpebholo should have embraced and supported the gesture rather than issuing threats. “The governor should be sincerely grateful,” Obi said.
Obi made the remarks while visiting Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, his alma mater, where he donated ₦50 million alongside other alumni to support the school’s infrastructure development.
He noted that the donation was aimed at addressing the lack of staff quarters and a modern administrative block at CKC. “Those who have verifiable, honest means of livelihood should invest in schools, in society, in health, and in lifting people out of poverty,” he urged.
Obi further revealed that his philanthropic engagements would continue across Nigeria throughout the week, adding, “Forget about the threat, it’s a waste of time.”
The donation, he said, is part of a larger effort to promote long-term investment in education and community development — a cause he insists must rise above political differences.
