No Unity, No Chance: Reno Omokri Mocks Opposition’s ‘Losers’ Convention’

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has cast doubt on the viability of a proposed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that Labour Party’s Peter Obi is unlikely to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking on Arise News, Omokri dismissed speculations of a united front against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that key figures touted as part of the coalition—Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi—have all signaled independent presidential ambitions.

He argued that the lack of consensus among the trio undermines any talk of a genuine alliance.

“There’s no coalition,” Omokri said. “What you’re seeing is a clash of egos. Peter Obi has made it clear he’s running. Atiku is also gearing up. Amaechi is even submitting a proposal to the ADC for a one-term presidency. Where is the coalition?”

Describing the group as a “losers’ convention,” Omokri suggested that the proposed alliance lacks substance and strategy, adding that President Tinubu has no reason to fear such a gathering.

“You’re forming a losers’ convention. Why should I be afraid of you? When you gather negative thinkers together, there’s more negativity,” he said.

He further noted that although the combined votes of Atiku and Obi in the 2023 election surpassed Tinubu’s tally—54% to 37%—their inability to work together remains a major stumbling block.

On Obi’s chances within the ADC, Omokri was blunt: “Based on what has happened in the past, it’s very unlikely he’ll get the ticket. He doesn’t have the clout in the ADC. From what I know, the party is likely to nominate a Northerner.”

With no clear unity among opposition heavyweights, Omokri concluded that the touted coalition is more fiction than fact, driven by personal ambition rather than a collective political strategy.
